With dozens of queries on daily you'll probably understand how does google search work by now. type few words you want and you’re done, and if not, there's always a drop-down recommendation. But what you may don’t know is that how much you can be precise with it even without using Advance Search feature, all you need is just tune a few words and add some operators and symbol and you get a precise result.
Adjust the Global Search Settings
by adjusting the search settings, you can get a different search result and how search is behave. Some of adjustment than you can change is
- Enable SafeSearch to exclude explicit content and show everything it got.
- Adjust the number of results per page to a number you want to display a significant number of results
- Select “Do not show popular searches” to reduce the trending topics impact
- You can also select “Open each selected result in a new browser window” so every link that you clicked will open a new window.
Don’t forget to save after you make these changes.
Use Symbol and Operators
Use quotes (“”) to search the exact words. If you search “how to get better at chess” sentence, the result will only show web that has the exact those words.
Use tilde (~) in front of any word to find its synonym. If you search android ~expensive you will also get the the search result such as android ~costly and so forth.
Exclude words you don’t want with minus (-) symbol. Let’s say you’re search for best media player -window, the results that omit roundups of best media player.
Insert period for a range (..) You might be looking for a computer in a specific price range, so you could search computer $700...$1200 to get only results in that price range.
Search by specific site using insert the url. An example is best photographic tips site: photographylife.com
Search by file tipe. If you want to search for a specific type of file, use filetype: to find only uploaded files that match your query like filetype:pdf to find a PDF file only.
